How to become a LearneRsNI Driving Instructor in Northern Ireland.
Our fully integrated LearneRsNI training programme can have you on the road and earning a great salary in as little as 3 months.
The qualification in NI process is in three parts. Our integrated approach to training will ensure that you acquire the knowledge, skills and experience to become a successful driving instructor.
You have a period of 24 months from passing the part 1 to passing the Part 3. This flexible approach allows you the freedom of training around your other commitments.
We have a wide range of options for both partly and fully qualified instructors, choose between fully adapted cars adequate for training at reasonable costs or weather you are an owner driver of a car that meets our required standard.

First Steps:
To become an instructor you must:
- Be over 21 years old
- Have held a full licences for 4+ years
- Complete a Access NI Check from the Gov Online Discloures Service
Part 1 (Theory)
- Information at your fingertips fully supported Online through WhatsApp group with LearneRsNI trainers.
- Exam preparation.
- Mock tests and practice questions to get you test-ready
- Hazard perception support
- 100 Question Multiple Choice Exam
(4 Sections to cover different topics)
& Hazard Perception Test - You will need to pass both tests in the same sitting to pass this.
Part 2 (Advanced Driving test)
- 70 to 90 Minute Driving assessment
Driving Assessment with development session. - In-car session to improve your driving
- Detailed development plan.
- Specific breakdown of where you need to practice and improve
- Additional lessons to improve your driving if required
- Eyesight Check
- Basic Car Maintenance and knowledge
- Driving to a high standard
- Brisk Business-like drive
- Follow directions independently
- You’re allowed a max of 4 individual minor driving errors
After successfully passing the Part 2 we can offer you a position within LearneRsNI as one of our PDI instructors.
Part 3 (Instructional ability)
- The part 3 is where you will get to demonstrate your coaching skills.
- Role play 2 Part exam, where a DVA Driving examiner give you 2 different scenarios, this could be a simple driving technique or manoeuvre.
- Full training provided
- Reflection and Review development sessions to continue to build your knowledge and help pull all learning together
On completion of the Part 3 you will be a fully qualified Approved Driving Instructor (ADI).
Submit your Access check
Before you start your training, you will need to complete an enhanced Access NI Discloure (criminal record check). It is a service required by DVA to ensure that all potential driving instructors are ‘fit & proper’.
